As temperatures rise and everything turns green, there’s something else waking up too: fleas and ticks. These tiny pests aren’t just a nuisance—they pose serious health risks to pets, wildlife, and even humans.
For Cats (and Dogs Too!) 😻
Even indoor pets can be exposed through windows, screens, or humans bringing fleas in on clothing. Once inside, they multiply fast!
Use vet-recommended monthly flea/tick prevention
Keep bedding clean and vacuum regularly
Check behind ears, under chins, and at the base of the tail
Don’t rely on flea collars alone—they’re often not enough
Some over-the-counter products can cause severe reactions in cats—especially if they’re made for dogs. Always double-check labels and ask your vet if unsure.
For Wildlife & Outdoor Spaces 🐿️
Ticks are especially dangerous to wildlife like deer, foxes, and birds. They can spread diseases like Lyme disease and anaplasmosis, which also affect people and pets.
🌿 To protect your outdoor space:
Mow tall grass regularly
Keep brush piles trimmed back
Consider creating “tick-safe zones” using gravel or mulch barriers
Keep food sources (like birdseed or outdoor cat food) cleaned up to reduce wildlife crowding
Let’s enjoy the sunshine without the itch. A few simple steps now can keep everyone safe and comfortable through the summer!
