Opossums Are Our Friends!

Updated: Nov 14

Did you know that opossums are one of nature’s best pest control helpers? These shy, misunderstood critters may not win beauty contests, but they play a vital role in our ecosystem!

🦴 What do they do?

Opossums eat ticks, cockroaches, rats, and even venomous snakes! A single opossum can eat thousands of ticks in one season, helping reduce the spread of Lyme disease.

🦷 Are they dangerous?

Not at all! Opossums are gentle, solitary animals that avoid confrontation. If threatened, they might "play dead" as a defense—but they’d rather just move along peacefully.

🧼 Are they dirty?

Quite the opposite! Opossums groom constantly and are less likely to carry diseases than many wild animals.

So the next time you see one waddling through your yard, give it a little wave and let it be. Opossums are on your side—quietly keeping the world a cleaner, safer place!
