A Love Story and A Birthday

Some matches are meant to be—and Buddy’s story is proof that love has no age limit. Buddy, a sweet senior cat, was abandoned after his original owner passed away. Left outside and unwanted, he was eventually spotted by a kind neighbor who noticed him struggling to survive. When Buddy arrived at Homeless to Home, he was thin, stressed, and clearly heartbroken. Despite medical care and affection from our team, he remained withdrawn—grieving his lost home and reluctant to join the other cats.

Then came Alex Carder, a first-time cat adopter from Columbus. Energetic and compassionate, Alex could’ve chosen any playful kitten or spunky young cat. But after meeting every feline at the rescue, something kept pulling him back to Buddy’s cage. And that’s when the magic happened—the moment Buddy looked at Alex, it was clear: the feeling was mutual.

Today, Buddy is living his best life—spoiled beyond belief, safe, and surrounded by love. Alex has embraced every bit of Buddy’s quirky, vocal personality (yes, Buddy’s a screamer when he wants something!) and the two are now completely inseparable.
Alex and his girlfriend Abby regularly travel from Columbus to visit the rescue and share love with the cats still waiting for homes. And soon, Abby will be adding a rescue kitty of her own to their little fur family. 💕

This past Thursday, April 18, we also celebrated Alex’s birthday, and we couldn’t think of a better way to honor him than by sharing the story of the life he changed. Happy (belated) Birthday, Alex—and thank you for seeing the beauty in an older cat who just needed someone to believe in him again.
